With all the bad PR about Google Buzz running around the web, I am struck with the reminder that people are very happy to trash others.  Is Buzz a failure?  I think it is too soon to tell.  I personally am underwhelmed with what I have seen so far, but time will tell if Buzz will actually make it.  I will keep an open mind, while remembering that not everything that Google does needs to be a hit.

For example I am still waiting to see something truly exciting come out of Wave.  I had fun playing with it for a week or so, but it never really spoke to me.  On the other hand, I really like Google’s Gmail, Reader, Analytics, Maps, and others.  Not too bad really.

The fact is I really like messing with new things, so when Google tries new things I will continue to want to be one of the first to check it out.

Apple just released an iPhone software update. Included are some minor bug fixes and improvements, including improved accuracy of reported battery level on iPhone 3GS and resolved issues with third-party apps not launching.

Embedding a wave

This is my first test embedding a wave into a blog post.  I am using the wavr plugin to embed the wave.

Obvious problems are:

  • the bottom of the embedded wave seems to be cut off a bit
  • Only fellow wavers can see the content.  I would like to see a public wave be readable by everyone.
  • when not logged in the sign in area is UGLY

Overall this is pretty cool.  I would bet that all these issues will be addressed.

Update:  I broke the wave while messing with robots and decided to remove it from this post

A friend just turned me on to reQall. It is an interesting web based reminder system, that is supposed to support location based reminders. Somewhat like an uber electronic GTD(Getting Things Done) system, it supports adding items by voice, email, IM and text messaging. ReQall will also send reminders to email, IM, and SMS.

One of the things that caught my attention is that IM reminders are interactive. ReQall will ask you if a certain task is done, and you can reply with a yes or no. A “no” will re-que for another reminder.

There is also an iPhone app that makes adding items by just speaking it very easy. ReQall has what appears to be an excellent speech recognition system that rarely misses.

The app is not without some issues though. One of the features of the Pro version is to be able to assign items to map locations, and reQall is supposed to remind you of items when you are close to the location using the GPS in the iPhone. The problem is that I can not seem to set locations to a map like they say I should be able to.

There are many other features, like integration with Evernote, Google Calendar, iCal
